Theresa was born on January 15, 1924 in Worthington Ohio to the late William Evin and Edna (Gamber) Huffman. She died Thursday March 26, 2015 in Pompano Beach, Florida. She was 91.
She is preceded in death by her sister Phyllis H. Courtney, father-in-law George David Brooks, mother-in-law Marie White Brooks, sisters-in-law Janet Brooks, Betty Brooks Dawkins, Maxine Brooks Dumbauld, brothers-in-law Jack Dawkins and Fred Dumbauld.
Theresa is survived by her husband of 68 years, David Clinton Brooks, her children Joan Brooks Dudgeon (Mike Dudgeon) of Alexandria, OH, John David Brooks (Karen Brooks) of St. Louis, MO, William Alan Brooks (Brenda Brooks) of Redmond, WA, Robert Neil Brooks of St. Cloud, FL., and her brother-in-law John Earl Brooks (Linda Brooks) of Alexandria, OH. Theresa enjoyed many hours of pleasure and days of joy with her 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Theresa attended Alexandria Elementary, Alexandria High School and The Ohio State University in 1941. After graduating in 1944, Theresa worked in Dayton, OH as a secretary during WWII. In 1960, she began her teaching career as a 4th grade teacher - 5 years in Hilliard schools, then 18 years in Upper Arlington, where she taught at Wickliffe Elementary until she retired in June, 1983.
Theresa was a lifetime member of the The Ohio State University Alumni Association and an avid OSU football fan. She was an active member of Boulevard Presbyterian Church, Boulevard's Social Action committee, and a member of the Child Conservation League (CCL).
Theresa's hobby and passion was her oil paintings. There are an un-cataloged, untold number of her paintings hanging in her home and many scattered among family and very close friends given as gifts. She used oil paints, some on stretched canvas, some on canvas board and painted scenes and people from postcards and pictures of places that caught her artist's eye.
Friends may call on Monday April 6, 2015 from 2-4pm and from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Theresa and the family would be honored by contributions to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, visit www.bcrfcure.org. Thank you. An online memorial will be at www.ckfraley.com. Crouse-Kauber-Fraley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
